Back on the horse…

Not since 1960 has a football game with Ohio University meant this much to the Bowling Green program. Normally, the trip to Athens is on the schedule merely for BG students to have an excuse to head to OU to meet high school friends and party their asses off.

But this year is different.

Following two closer-than-they-shoulda-been wins (one over Buffalo in 3OT and another at Florida International) and a self-destructing home loss to Kent State (!), BG needs to get back on track. Even coming into the season, the tales of an improving Ohio U. team made this road trip no gimmie, but we’ve heard that numerous times from Bobcat faithful over the years. But after that Kent game, this one makes me nervous. I know this BG team has the talent to beat Ohio by 20+ points. But it’s still a raw talent, and one that has had trouble proving itself thus far in the season. The showing vs. Wisconsin was decent, the play against Buffalo and FIU was all right, then the downside of starting so many freshmen reared its ugly head against Kent State. Which team decides to show up this afternoon in Athens will go a long way toward deciding if the last seven weeks of the season will be a lot longer than 49 days….

Still, I’ll go with the brown and orange gut on this one and the Falcons pull it out 27-10.

One side note, the Columbus Dispatch had a story today that shows just how much “Frank the Tank” Solich has been policing his team’s repeated trips to the courtroom.

(If you guessed between “slim” and “none”, you’re a winner!)
