Three druggies and a Hawaiian walk into a bar…

The “Deadly 15” have been selected! It’s a tricky list, and, while I think I did a little better getting more diverse than last year, it still leans a bit toward the elderly side. Then again, I’ve got three folks under 50 and two of those will turn 31 and 27 next year, so I could score big with some youth. Ironically, Nancy Reagan and her “Just Say No!” campaign makes another appearance on the list, along with the three “under 50’s” who really need to give in and “Just Say YES!”.

Alfredo Di Stefano – Italian soccer star – b. 7/4/26
Darren McGavin – actor – b. 5/7/22
Art Modell – dickhead – b. 6/23/25
Robert Mugabe – head of Zimbabwe – b. 2/21/24
Ernest Gallo – winemaker, Julio’s brother – b. 3/18/09
Pete Doherty – musician, drug afficianado – b. 3/12/79
Mindy McCready – country singer, eats pills for breakfast – b. 11/30/75
Bowie Kuhn – former MLB commissioner – b. 10/28/26
Don Ho – singer, bubble fan – b. 8/13/30
Gerald Ford – President – b. 7/14/13
Ralph Kiner – baseball Hall of Famer – b. 10/27/22
Eunice Kennedy Shriver – Kennedy – b. 7/10/21
Nancy Reagan – former first lady – b. 7/6/21
Max Wright – actor – b. 8/2/43
Diego Maradona – soccer player – b. 10/30/60

Falling on the “close, but no funeral procession” list, along with a small number of those from last year’s list:

Ariel Sharon – Israeli PM – b. 2/27/28
Dana Reeve – Mrs. Superman – b. 2/19/61
Bo Schembechler – former football coach – b. 4/1/29
Betty Ford – former first lady – b. 4/8/18

  1. I missed Don Ho, mainly because I turned in my list the first week of December. Lair had hinted he might give a bonus for those who turned in a list early, so I did, and he didn’t. It also meant I got stuck with Chicken George Boswell (from the first Big Brother), who didn’t come out and deny rumors of pancreatic cancer until mid-December.

Oh well. I’m just glad I could find Casey Coleman’s birthday (it took a bit of searching!)

  2. Looks like your 11th man might make a quick exit from your bench. The guy had one stroke and didn’t exactly strike me as a portrait of health.
