BlogPoll Week 2

Week two could be the hardest BlogPoll to do. At least the first week I got to make some guesses and back them up with semi-logical chatter. Now, there’s a week’s worth of games down to either strengthen, weaken, or in most cases completely foul up the order. Is Bowling Green a bad team for it’s defensive absence in Madison? Is Wisconsin a good team for abusing BG’s bad defense? Is TCU a Top 25 team, or thanking it’s lucky stars Adrian Peterson thought the season started next week? Is Michigan’s defense just as OMG AWFUL as its offense is OMG AWESOME? Did Jim Tressel light an extra candle in church Sunday for the sins he committed by actually scoring points on somebody?

All these questions and more, somewhat answered….NOW:

Southern Cal-Handled Hawaii
Texas-Handled Former Directional Louisiana U.
LSU-DNP
Georgia-If Boise State is who they’re supposed to be, they’re still picking up body parts behind UGA’s woodshed.
Michigan-Offense is good. Defense, not so much, but might not deserve the hate mail they’ve received.
Ohio State-5a with Michigan. These two’s games might have proven that NIU is a more formidable foe than Miami(OH). Which makes my MAC East-residing ass happy.
Virginia Tech
Tennessee
Florida State-Their defense gets them this spot. Their offense is working on breaking the top 65.
Iowa-Take a half-dozen or so starters off a bad Testicle Tech team and handle ’em like you’re supposed to.
Louisville-Not the firepower we expected, but a win on the road in a rivalry game.
Florida
Miami (Florida) – Offense didn’t do anything to impress, but they’re a couple botched FG attempts away from making people not think of FSU’s defense.
Boston College
Purdue
Arizona State
Oklahoma – Probably deserves to drop further, but the defense wasn’t too bad, and Adrian Peterson won’t stay down for long.
Clemson – Winners of the best obituary-interrupted game in college football history.
Texas A&M – William Rehnquist would have gone for two.
Notre Dame – Irish win for Weis; New coach promises not to wear sweatsuit to practice again.
Virginia
Fresno State
Cal
Alabama
TCU – Honorary 25 spot. They may prove to be a 3-8 team, but this week, they’re undefeated and the talk of the college football weekend.

Dropped out: Boise State, Pitt, BGSU – Boise State and Pitt turned an off-season full of hype into blowout losses (Pitt at home, even, and there is no way Tyler Palko is “so fucking proud” of anyone right now). BG turned its hype into a 20-7 lead, then a 14-point loss, though they had a glimmer of hope at the end. BGSU head coach Gregg Brandon was overheard in his post-game press conference asking why President Bush was waiting so long to provide federal aid for his front seven.

Just missed: Wisconsin – The Badgers were on the other side of the coin flip for the 25th spot, but winning at home and giving up 42 (and inches from 49) at home shows that there are problems that not even Brian Calhoun can fix.

Games I watched: BG-Wisky (live), parts of NIU-UM (plus “Michigan Replay” for highlights), and most of ND-Pitt, FSU-Miami and USC-Hawaii (pretty much everything until it got out of hand in the 21-3 range), the end of Clemson-TAMU, some Utah-Arizona, and SportsCenter about six dozen times between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Also listened to the first parts of Louisville-UK on the road.

Oversight/Stroke of Genius Move of the week: I didn’t have Auburn in my first poll.
