But do they go deep on the bench?

Earlier tonight at work, I had a great idea for a feature on this site, the “obscure college of the week”. But then I realized that the first honoree would never be topped, so here’s to you Longwood University, home of the Lancers. Seriously, I can’t make this stuff up. Though I do have to thank Dan for originally pointing it out to me and making the dream happen.

Others ranking up there include Biola University in California (also thanks to Dan), and Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky. Their nickname is the Pelicans. I didn’t know that pelicans were big around Louisville, but apparently they are.

Spalding U. was also the cause of today’s “Line of the Day”, which, on certain nights, is so damn good, it needs to be syndicated, if not nationally sponsored. Upon seeing the Spalding Lady Pelicans basketball score tonight, I simply noted, “No I’m not, grandpa. I’m playing tennis.” It’s subtleties like that which are hard to beat.

I’d like to also thank Oklahoma for apparently showing up tonight. Or at least letting people run around the Orange Bowl in their uniforms. I really didn’t feel one way or the other about this game, and the apathy I felt toward watching it grew tenfold somewhere late in the first quarter. It was like the BG teams of recent years in a MAC game against Eastern Michigan, Ohio U. or Marshall. It was over before halftime, and you could do nothing with the second half except for giggle and wonder if they’ll hit 100.

Geek-wise, commenting is messed up on this site, hopefully not for long, as I have a team of people I don’t know that are way smarter than me working on getting it fixed. We’ll see how they do. Until then, you can always send me mail (see link way up top there) if you have to call me names.

Though a preferred example of e-mailing me would be this. Looks like Winnie Cooper is all growns up.
