I really need to start watching, or at least paying attention to, more local news. It doesn’t necessarily have to be TV news, because God knows I get enough of that jazz during my work week, but I need to pay attention more.
Yesterday, we had a boil water order in effect for pretty much the whole city of Indianapolis for about 18 hours. Not that I’m a big non-bottled water drinker, but to think that without that information (passed on from someone that heard it on the news), I could have swallowed a mouthful of water in the shower and ended up with cholera or something. Isn’t that worth catching the news for a minute or two?
Then today, just as I’m thinking all is well and good, that the bucket-of-rain-an-hour pace we’ve been on since the snow stopped last week had wrapped up, and that I could get away with heading out in the new shoes, I find that I miss this gem on a local news website:
The next round of precipitation will take place through Saturday morning. Sections of central Indiana will see a wintry mix initially, changing over to more snow overnight. Accumulations will be light (up to an inch or two) but watch for slick roads.
Unfortunately for me, I saw this after I got home. Fortunately for me, I got home. Sometime during a viewing of Caddyshack and part of Ocean’s Eleven, we got that “up to an inch or two”, and its still coming. If I had to guess, I’d say we’re at 3 1/2 and counting, probably closer to 4 by now. All I know is that I’m horrible at guessing measurements, and that there’s a shitload of snow on the ground. The 10 minute drive home took at least 25 minutes. In the time it took to brush the snow off my windows, there was enough snow on my windows that I had to brush them off again. And its NEVER a good sign when the headlights in the rearview mirror are suddenly tail lights and are 20 feet to the right of where you remember seeing them before.
I’ve debated taking a picture of this, since its still unbelievable to me that where there was no snow, there is now a whole lotta snow. But that would involve going outside, which I’m not willing to do just for a picture of a snowy parking lot. Maybe when I get my house in the country (c’mon Powerball!) I’ll take that picture, but not tonight.
On the bright side, Wednesday is going to get up to 60. Damn Indiana weather is worse than the damn Ohio weather, even if it is pretty much the same weather. The best part is, thanks to the snow, then rain, then snow, and then rain that’s supposed to come after the snow, even if it stopped raining/snowing right now and suddenly jumped to 90 degrees everyday, the golf courses still wouldn’t be playable until April, I’m guessing.
