It’s the best man…I got it from Joe Niekro

Not a good day to be a former sports figure.

(Without messing with individual links at this hour… Joe Niekro, Trevor Berbick, Charlie Leigh and Red Auerbach, all kicked it within 24 hours. Niekro gets the compassionate vote, Auerbach the historic vote, Berbick the “Who dies by hatchet anymore?” vote and Charlie Leigh the “Wow. He played for the Browns!?!?” vote. Regardless, it gave me an excuse to use the post title.)

What a day.

Without going into too much detail… (because it’s late and I really want to see my bed right now)…I have no idea what to say about Bowling Green football. I may eventually copy an e-mail I sent here, because that sums it up, but right now… WE LOST TO FREAKING TEMPLE! I’m still planning on making it for the game vs. Miami(OH) on Nov. 15, because I love BG (the city) and like BG (the football program) enough to make the trip… but this afternoon was horrendous. Sick thing is, we KILLED them in offensive numbers, but still lost by two scores. As a hindsight gambler, I really should have put the wedding fund on Temple plus the points (you know, the points that they laughed at and returned?)

Michigan got a win in some nasty conditions and has a virtual bye next week vs. Ball State. Unfortunately, Ball State isn’t playing too bad right now, and the week after that is a roadie to Indiana. That is, and Indiana team that may have forgotten that they’re Indiana and it’s not basketball season. MSU got rolled up for the second week (at least) in a row, but this time didn’t have anything left to pull out of their ass. Good thing is, Kellen Lewis, while no Troy Smith, should give Michigan at least a bit of a tune-up for playing against a QB that is anything but a spineless turtle.

The post-work evening was spent in the usual post-work dive (the Tip Top Tavern on 14th and Capitol for you Indy folks peeking in), but there was a band, so the normal crowd of 10 turned into a crowd of 50+. Mostly women who looked like men while hugging other women who looked only slightly less like men, if you catch my drift. And thanks to Halloween, there were more than a few men in drag. That’s just not cool. Ever.

But the beers were cheap, and drinking until they set the clocks back and then drinking some more is always a treat.

  1. Charlie Leigh “Wow played for the Browns!?!?”
Not only for the Browns but the Back to back Miami Dolphins SB champs.
Only the third player to go to the NFL straight out of high school.
Led the Dolphins in punt returns and Kick off return average. Has
the #69 greatest touchdown of all time out of 41,000 + scored as
ranked by NFL Films. Oh yeah by the way raised over $15,000 for the
Dan Marino Childrens Foundation. Along with NFL Caring for Kids,
Bleeding Disorders Foundation, Inner City Youth Program, and Classroom
Visit Program. One of the BEST. Charles “Tinkie” Leigh.
