It’s 1995…

While the past two weeks have been filled with “George Mason Mania”, and former Bowling Green coach Jim Larranaga is at the forefront. Alot has been said praising him, and I’m sure I’ve made comments here that I can’t remember at this time, but I’m happy to see him doing well, and representing “the mid-majors” so well. It just looks like he’s having a blast with every passing game.

Also, the man who was the hockey coach at BG while I was in school, Jerry York, is in the NCAA Frozen Four with Boston College this year. A win would be York’s third, including the one he won at BG in 1984, but this one might be the most special, as he spent this past summer fighting off cancer.

The question that remains is, if these two win national titles, how fast does some school scoop up former Falcon football coach Gary Blackney?

  1. You seriously think anyone in their right mind would scoop up Blackney. Sure he did well as a coach, but he couldn’t recruit to save his life. The teams he did well enough with were not recruited by him. The QBs he recruited alone were hideous.

As for Coach L, it’s nice to see him achieving something but when it’s this late in his career, do you ever wonder if he sold his soul (and handed out a little cash) in order to make one final run? Maybe I’m just being a pessimist, but when he was at BG he would crumble under the immense pressure of a rivalry game or a game in the MAC tourney. For him to hold it together and not totally wet himself in OT yesterday is impressive enough.

  2. It’s nice to see the success of Coach L and Harry Vork (I mean Jerry York). They’re are two nice guys who always appreciated the publicity their teams received and always treated student media with respect.

As for as GB Gary Blackney is concerned, “you were at the game, what did they do?”
