Not only did I recently find out that “Sledgehammer!” is out on DVD (with Season 2, and I didn’t realize there WAS a Season 2, coming out in April or May), but today, March 22, 2005, the first season of “Doogie Howser M.D.” has been released. Certainly the scene outside of Best Buy stores around the country is a mad house, here as the clock has just struck midnight, anxious viewers are likely barrelling through aisles, knocking over displays, hurting fellow shoppers with the energy and excitement of a million Christmases, just to get their hands on this epic disc.
As for me, I’d rather write about it, wishing that I could type this entry in white blocky letters on a blue screen with a bright flashing cursor at the end, anticipating my next words, making the viewer hang on for more that’s sure to come. A life lesson, perhaps a deep introspection into the mind of child prodigy Douglas Howser, or maybe just a light-hearted comment about that wild and crazy Vinnie DelPino. Maybe I’ll get the DVD someday, though honestly right now, “Doogie” and “Sledgehammer” are neck and neck for my entertainment dollar.
Of course, no Doogie-related post would be complete without a comment about the naughty Wanda Plenn.
Mmmm…. Wanda Plenn.
I scored a copy of the Doogie first season 2 weeks ago at a not-quite-legal-sells-stuff-pre-street date establishment in LA. I had forgotten how good it really was.
I can see Tony sitting there at his computer, like Doogie at the end of every episode:
“Dear Diary,
Vinnie climbed through my window again today. I don’t know what his deal is, but I wish he’d quit doing that.”
And the people who made Sledge Hammer! didn’t expect a second season, either. That’s why they ended season one with a nuclear bomb going off and destroying the city.
They had a heck of a time explaining that away…
