Actually, there are no winners here. Credit (or rather, full and total, complete and utter, absolute blame) goes to James for this one. He pointed out in a post today that “In Da Club” won the Billboard Music Award for “Best Ringtone”.

Are you serious? And if you are, will Alexander Graham Bell be getting all the awards he missed out on for the last 120 years or so? Who decides that crap?

And it gets better. Here’s the list of winners.

Best new female artist is Ashlee Simpson. I’ll admit, I don’t pay that much attention to the kiddie pop music scene, but what this tells me is that either she’s the ONLY new female artist this year, or her sister was running around the judge’s rooms topless. I can only hope that when she accepted her award, they played her clip from Saturday Night Live on the big screen, then gave her 25 minutes to give an acceptance speech, so they could play it 8 or 9 times.

The other thing that I noticed from that list is that there must have been about 4 nominees for EVERY category. Then they rotated. For those of you that don’t want to count, there were 12 different winners amongst 39 awards. Take away the country winners and there was 10 winners for 36 awards. Lose Britney Spears, Maroon 5 and Ashlee Simpson, who won one each, and there was 7 winners for 33 awards. For you math-illiterate types, that’s almost 5 awards per person/group. Is music THAT bad anymore?

The icing on the cake, however, was the “Artist Achievement Award”, given to Destiny’s Child. Um, check me if I’m wrong, Sandy, but haven’t they been broken up for pretty much all of the past year (until a couple weeks ago when Oprah needed ratings and the other two girls realized Beyonce was their key to making rent each month)? What have they achieved?

I can’t believe this gets to me like it does, but I guess it goes a LONG way to explaining how messed up the world is going to be when the current crop of teenagers run the asylum in a few years.

Also, I’m still working on the WordPress thing. Its pretty cool, and I like a bunch of the functionality, but I keep getting the feeling that the more I play around, the better chance I have of totally jacking something up. Which wouldn’t be very good now, would it? I’ve got some pretty cool template ideas, but I think my baby steps approach is gonna put them on hold for a bit.
