So the unconfirmed reports about Jeff Garcia to the Browns are now confirmed, and ESPN even dared mention that Tim Couch might go to Pittsburgh. That sounds familiar. Thing is, as I said yesterday, going to a division rival is the quickest way to make Tim Couch a great QB. Hopefully, Pittsburgh blew their bankroll on Duce Staley, and will be stuck with a bad quarterback for another few years.
On the ice, for the second time in 12 years, the Hartford/Carolina franchise has traded its greatest player, Ron Francis. This time its to Toronto (who I used to actually like, now they’re nothing more than a collection of whiny, underachieving thugs), last time, Ronnie Franchise was traded to Pittsburgh (who I never used to like, still don’t, really) and they won two Cups with him in town. If only he could have brought that one to Carolina two years ago. And this time we don’t even get a “Zarley Zalapski” out of the deal. Just a draft pick.
He wasn’t the only former Whaler to be dealt by one of my favorite teams, though. The Blue Jackets also traded Geoff Sanderson to Vancouver. Rumors have both of these players ending up back with their respective teams after the season, but I’ll believe it when I see it, and for now, I can only wish them the best of luck with their new teams. At least the Whalers got some props on SportsCenter this morning!
Now I’m off to play FedEx Roulette with my new cell phone. How nice!
