The winds of change

So much sportyness the past couple days, I don’t know where to begin. Of course, the college basketball season ended, and with that, Bowling Green hired a new coach. Louis Orr was the coach at Seton Hall for a few years, took them to the tournament, won Big East coach of the year honors, but apparently still didn’t keep the AD happy and was canned. There are a few outliers in the BG fanbase, but for the most part, this seems to be a good hire for BG. Hopefully it translates into some wins next season.

Also over is the hopes for Carolina to defend the Stanley Cup. At least missing the playoffs this year was more like the late 90’s, where they were alive late in the season and had something to play for. The two seasons between the Cup Final appearance and the Cup win were abysmal to say the least. Unfortunately, they struggled for stretches this season, and couldn’t hold leads against Tampa Bay in their last two meetings and thus they’re wrapping up the season before it gets fun (and televised). Who knows if the “Stanley Cup hangover” played a part, though they did come out of June with two seven-game series and a hospital wing worth of injuries to fight off, some surgeries to key players slowed the start of the season and after a chance to tie for first in January/early February fell by the wayside, the Canes were just struggling to keep their heads above water.

So, we turn to baseball. Well, the Rangers have started off 0-3, all against the division rival Angels, which is nice. And opening day here in Indy is set for tomorrow afternoon. With a week of golf weather last week, I was really thinking about heading down there and spending a day kicked back at the ballyard.

Then today it snowed.

Play ball!
