This is, uh, not good.

From the Dallas-Edmonton game Jan. 4, Dallas leads by a goal in the closing seconds:

Fortunately for the Stars, they won in OT. Of course, if they end up a point behind Edmonton at the end of the season, I know someone that’s going to be strung up by his beans.

Incidentally, the color commentator on that clip, Ray Ferraro, really shows his ass. If you’ll notice, the exact same thing happens to give up the empty net chance in the first place. It’s the end of the third, the ice is pretty much crap, pucks hop. Much more fluke than abomination. Of course in hindsight, Stefan could have always just skated behind the net and stood still for 10 seconds. But what if he would have fallen down there? He could have also turned and shot the puck the length of the ice the other way. Of course both of those are ridiculous considerations when you have an empty net in front of you and the unthinkable one-in-eleventy-billion chance that the puck could hop over your stick before you shot it.

I loved Ferraro when he played for the Whalers, but he’s turned into a commentator, and for that he can’t be forgiven.
