Some folks just don’t get it

Last year, after finding out he didn’t get into the NFL Hall of Fame, Michael Irvin reportedly sat in his hotel room and cried. This year, he’s taking it a little bit better.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for one of his former teammates.

Former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith, in true SEC-turned-mid ’90s Cowboys-style, threw this gem into a rant about Michael’s omittance:

“What does what he does off the field have to do with what he does on it? This is the Pro Football Hall of Fame, not the Life Hall of Fame. His stats are what they are and they’re not going to change. . . . If the voters are not looking at it like that, shame on them.”

Well since you said so, Emmitt. Let’s just forget the drugs and the arrests and the drug arrests. How dare we send a message to the youth that a criminal record doesn’t matter if you can run and catch real good?

Even in their aging and graying days, I still can’t stand that team.
