Despite it’s usual high degree of difficulty on the readability scale, I can give Scoop Jackson a bit of a pass on the whole “expressing yourself through the anthem” bit.
But, without seeing the video, it sounds like R. Kelly went a little bit overboard, swam a few miles out, got on a different boat, and went overboard again. Regardless, I’ll let Scoop have his point. The Whitney Houston comparison doesn’t float, though. She belted out a hell of a rendition, but it was all singing. No dancing, no “wave your hands in the air”, just singing.
The big question I have, though, by listing note-by-note every notable African-American that has seemingly ever sang the national anthem at a sporting event, didn’t Scoop forget Carl Lewis?
Or doesn’t that one count?
