Damn kids (books)!!!

Along the lines of the Sesame Street dilemma (more later), my brain is now being racked by memories of a children’s book (or series of children’s books, I believe) that I can picture, but can’t remember to save my ass.

I think it was about a cartoon couple, they both had big round heads, and I think she always carried a purse around. The Tom Otterness sculptures around Indianapolis brought it to mind (actually, my girlfriend’s mind, but now it’s infected me as well), and I can’t remember, or even come close Googling what it might be. If I were any kind of an artist, I’d draw it up, but I’m not.

These books are probably from about 20-25 years ago, at least, but certainly they’re an “old standard” that has at least been kept around. If I think real hard, I believe they were white with a bold black title across the top, and all the books might have been about 5″x5″, tops. Might have had a whole bunch of characters, but they all looked similar with big round heads and the husband and wife pair seemed to be a recurring theme.

Any help?

As for the Sesame Street deal, that still remains one of the most common searches that brings people here, and probably the most active comment section, too. Yet I think the boy vs. girl jury is still out, and no one seems to have a clip of the sketch. Help is appreciated there, too.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled adulthood.

  1. Have I mentioned that the attic is very hot this time of year? The books are by Roger Hargreaves and the two I found digging in the attic are LITTLE MISS SPLENDID and LITTLE MISS TINY.
