Cranial Accessories

If the death of Mitch Hedberg turns out to be true, which I believe it is, yet understand, and want to believe some of the skepticism, it really is a loss to the comedy community. It seems like as big as he was, he was about to explode. And in this world that is still teeming with unfunny female comics and hilljacks recycling the same tired redneck stereotypes, Hedberg’s style was a breath of fresh air. I hadn’t thought of the comparison at all until reading some of the obituary write-ups, but he really was like Steven Wright. Delivery was somewhat similar, and the same “yeah, no shit” thought after hearing a punchline was there. If all this is true, its just a shame that Mitch never got a chance to be “the guy on the couch”.

My brother sums it up pretty well, too, and Pete does a good job covering the skeptics role. I think he’s gone, but it would be damn funny if he wasn’t. As I mentioned earlier today, if it turns out he’s still alive after this, Andy Kaufman owes him a beejer.

Oh yeah, and Terri Schiavo died, too. Good. Say what you will about the religious/political/selfish/etc. reasons for keeping her “alive”, but this is a story that has long worn out its welcome. I’m now taking bets on where the next place relgious freaks and anti-religious freaks and liberal freaks and ultra-conservative freaks will spend their next month’s vacation bitching and moaning about something that doesn’t affect the rest of the world. And maybe now I can get back to my job without worrying all night about the “Terri Watch”.
