A few days ago, Dan gave a rundown of weatherman no-no’s, I guess we can add this guy to the list. I can only imagine this was during a taped segment, though the fact that the clip has seen the light of day online leads me to believe it might have really happened. This one could be worth a little research.
(The title of the post thanks to an unfortunately hilarious “20/20” story from 15 or so years ago.)
About four years ago, listening to talk radio, I stumbled upon a show with a more outlandish than normal guest, and a host that seemed to encourage it. After awhile, as the show got funnier, and the guests more outrageous, I caught on that it was all a gag, and an amazing gag at that. The host was playing the role of host and guest, and seamlessly at that. While the show took on a different form in the months after September 11, 2001, and the local affiliate I heard it on took it out of their lineup, I’ve caught bits here and there, and my friends, it’s back to normal and hi-freaking-larious.
The show is The Phil Hendrie Show, and while the affiliates are limited, and extremely scarce around these parts, you can listen to it live online from 10pm-1am Eastern at KFI 640’s website. Give it a try, I guarantee you’ll love it. I’ve got some mp3’s of show clips somewhere around here that I’ll share (on a strict “right-click and save as” basis, of course) eventually, because it’s just that funny. Wednesday night’s “my balloon knot is on fire” line clinched it for me. Hi-freaking-larious.
