So much has been said around the college football world about the recent Jason Whitlock column on ESPN.com’s Page 2, where he called Notre Dame out as racist for giving Charlie Weis a fat contract extension after seven games, while Ty Willingham won his first eight games (Weis is 5-2 through seven), but got canned after three seasons. I can see small parts in favor of both sides of the argument, but what I see most is that both sides are ignorant. What the hell could ND be thinking to drop 10 years and $40 million on the table against a guy who’s lost the only two (or at very best two out of the three) tough games he’s coached? And while the numbers alone will show you that there is alot of room for improvement in hiring black coaches, the whole idea of “white guy have, black guy doesn’t” turning into a race fight is more than a bit off base. Even if there is<\/em> a valid argument somewhere in Whitlock’s ramblings, his history of being a loudmouth<\/a> eats away at his credibility the way Tom Amstutz eats away at a slab of ribs. (Very messily, and with the risk of children losing limbs.)<\/p>\n

Anyway, aside from the above link to Brian’s argument at MGoBlog, this whole setup was really just a way to justify saying this…
