...the joys of another passing christmas

I hope that everyone had a pleasant Christmas. I was very happy that it fell on a Saturday this year so that I could have two days off. Santa Claus was very good to me. Probably the best gift was my wife signing me up for the local men's hockey league. I gave it up when we were about to have our daughter, and she said that she could tell I really missed it.
Lots of books this year. I only asked for two, but got each of those three times. Barnes and Noble can be very overwhelming with a credit to spend, But I bought a copy of Catcher in the Rye, which I have never read but always wanted to . I also picked up a new Nick Hornby book that I didn't even know existed, so that should be enjoyable.
I got several CD's for christmas. Let me just say that the new Elvis Costello disc is tits. I've already listened to it three times, along with a Neil (the last name should just be understood, but it's Diamond for all of you who don't know) collection that my wife and daughter got me.
So, all in all, it was a great christmas for me. How about you?

...Why cordless phones suck

Okay, so it's been a while. Sue me. Holiday time is a pain in the ass. Throw in a wife who works in retail, and a six month old and time is spread even thinner.
So today I got to stay home due to 13" of snow. (I wish it were "Twelve Inches of Snow.) Anyhow, I popped in the movie "High Fidelity", and within the first ten minutes there are like three instances of someone slamming down the phone receiver. I thought to myself, "self, it's a good thing he's not on a cordless; or worse still, a cell phone." It is impossible to dramatically slam down a cordless or cell phone. There is no way to authoritatively press the little end button so that the person on the other end can know that you are done speaking to them rather than just thinking the phone cut off.
That is why on this day, December 23, 2004, I vow to always have at least one corded phone in my home so that I can end a phone conversation with someone and have them know it was completely intentional. God, I love the holiday spirit.
